hosts or.....?

I am trying to block logmein.com, I have all their suggested whitelist ( http://help.logmein.com/selfserviceknow ... 000FdVqCAK ) in my hosts file yet I can still visit the site. Any Ideas?

Yes i'm sure many will see a problem with this, but this is for my egullable lderly clients that would easily fall for these "microsoft" phone scams. I've already have had quite a few that lost alot of money from these. So if there is a problem I will have a script hidden in their computer that I can tell them to run in order to remove the block (change the hosts file back) because more than likely they will call me asking why they can't visit the site. So please do not reply on why I shouldn't do it, or that it's wrong to do (This choice is on me, not you, don't worry...i'll take the blame). I only want to know how I can get this done

I am on Windows 8 Pro 64bit. and yes I have excluded the hosts file from Windows defender.
Thanks in advance.

Here is what I have:
Code: Select all
0.0.0.0 logmein.com
0.0.0.0 www.logmein.com
0.0.0.0 logmein.com
0.0.0.0 secure.logmein.com/
0.0.0.0 logmeinrescue-enterprise.com
0.0.0.0 logme.in
0.0.0.0 hamachi.cc
0.0.0.0 internapcdn.net
0.0.0.0 LogMeIn123.com
0.0.0.0 123rescue.com
0.0.0.0 support.me
0.0.0.0 join.me
0.0.0.0 cub.by
0.0.0.0 cubby.com

EDIT: added my current hosts file
If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense.....Who in the world am I? Ah, that's the great puzzle. I'm afraid I can't explain myself, sir. Because I am not myself, you see?

You should just replace the 0.0.0.0 with 127.0.0.1 for localhost and then flush your cache in cmd with command ipconfig /flushdns that should refresh and activate the blocked sites. Hope this works for you! Also if you want to temporarily disable any of these blocks just comment them out with a # before the #127.0.0.1 www.whatveryourblocking.com

Thanks a lot! That really worked great, however now I noticed another flaw....if you google logmein, it allows you to visit the site. I think more importantly I mainly need to just block that file from being downloaded. Wow...the stuff I go through just to help my customers to not get scammed. I think it's worth it though, that or print out a flyer with a warning which may not be a bad idea either....I like this idea though, because very few of my clients bother to read or listen to what I tell them what not to do.

You're also going to want to block AMMYY as well. I've seen that one used more than I have LogMeIn.

That's a good idea as well. I use ammyy for my remote support, but I didn't think that I can just direct them to my site to get it until now. That was the only reason I wasn't going to block it, but you're right...lately they have been using that more. Thanks for that.
