What do you think about this? I also listened to an interview that the author did with "Fresh Air" a show on NPR radio. They talked about Google Chrome being one of the worst offenders. What browser do you use to combat this?

I've been using Opera (Chromium based) though I think the other guys still use Chrome themselves. I couldn't read the article so I don't know if it's in there, but honestly I'm not sure I see a tangible harm in it. Sometimes it's of benefit that some company serving me ads is going to show relevant ones (or not, though I still get the ads regardless.) I'm not saying I'm ok with it, I'm one of those people who if I see an ad I'm interested in I'll go directly to the website before I click on the ad, my way of not feeding the machine... but I digress.

Back to privacy, I like what it says in this article best: (not that I agree with the entire article)

That's a good read. I think I agree to a point. You can't protect your privacy if someone is willing to go through the trouble of digging it up. You can do things like turn off tracking on Google or use a VPN, but if the person wants it bad enough they can still get it. Nothing is totally private unless you don't put it out anywhere other than in your own head.
