dSupportSuite immunization

Hey all

I'm looking at providing as a paid supportsuite inoculation against the usual suspects. I know Nick is working hard on cryptoprevent to be integrated - that will be great. I also want to provide something like unchecky (http://unchecky.com/) and something like a hosts block - I dunno.

The idea is - paying customers get as much prevention as possible, I get paid for preventing it and if they decide they no longer want to pay - I downgrade their dsupportsuite to free version - which does not have prevention software (but does have other useful stuff of course) - the prevention software such as cryptoprevent and unchecky are then removed as part of the downgrade - meaning less protection and a good reason to resubscribe with me.

Possible? Or as unchecky is a seperate program there is no way to integrate/remove when needed?

Hey,

I'm pretty sure you cannot force an uninstall of existing programs using the restrictions we currently have today. You could always come up with a "decommission" template to apply but that would take a week to get the maintenance routine to run. If you figure this out be sure to let us know!

Thanks,
Ray

Unless you tell your dSupportSuite to update it's config at every heartbeat. ;)

True, but that would mean you still have to use the decommission template and wait to receive the heartbeat from them before applying the free template. Could end up being difficult to manage.

Agreed, but it wouldn't be a week before the decommission template took effect. Also, if you crafted your "free" template properly, it could be both a decommission template, as well as the free template. So you'd just need to switch them off from the paid to the free. You'll have to do that no matter how you look at it.

Great point, the free template could deactivate the paid features. The only issue that remains is if the customer decides to remove dSupportSuite. They would uninstall it, and it would not run the decommission commands during the uninstall process.
