I'm still not doing something right....just made a new one as promisted to Gator. I made the iso (untouched) with rufus, then I manually dropped my d7ii folder onto the flash drive after it was made. I put it in the root directory as well as the program files directory....for some reason its nowhere to be found. So I got the idea to insert my normal d7ii flash drive in at the same time, it saw that just fine....but it launched with just the splash screen again and now i'm back to square one. I know it has got to be something stupid i'm missing, my iso is an oem so that should be fine....i just know its gonna be some minor little detail somewhere. I think I will try a win7 one this week and see if that goes any better.
If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense.....Who in the world am I? Ah, that's the great puzzle. I'm afraid I can't explain myself, sir. Because I am not myself, you see?

just on the off chance this does anything different, try launching d7II.exe with the /offline parameter:

d7II.exe /offline

see if that starts all the way up. it should be doing that automatically (applying the /offline settings, as it should be detecting WinPE, but should is a big word.) the offline setting skips a ton of startup code related to information gathering about the OS during startup.

I would also be interested in knowing if you get the F8 startup menu if that was enabled - maybe enable it in Config on a working machine and then try that copy with WinPE..

we may see where exactly the issue is if you enable debug mode and debug log to file. this can be done in Config, or on the F8 menu, or by editing/adding the line "DebugLog=1" to the "[Config]" section of the Config\d7II.ini file (no quotes on any of that of course.) then it will create a Debug dir with a new text file output for each time you run d7II. I'd be interested to see how far it gets..

---

But I keep coming back to the idea now that something is different about your WinPE build even though you are just following the steps I gave.. as if some critical component was deselected before compiling the ISO. I'm sure those settings persist so it may be worth deleting any config files that have been created by the software - unsure where those are. Have you considered (or already tried) deleting your winbuilder directory and using a fresh extraction of that download?

Guys,

Thank you for the input, Some forum links never get resolved. I think Nic may be on to something with corupt or missing files. Nic if your build works great all the time with the master file of all D7ii files simply put in the programs folder. Then their is a strong possibility that either our A/V software is causing the issue or file transmission is being corrupted. I'm going to try the offline settings and see what's up.

Couple things of note that may be pertinent! The ISO load is not a totally complete install windows in so far as their seems to be no extra's allowed in the system tray or way of seeing more with the expansion button missing. This may be critical as my version of D7ii with was updated Friday, (version escapes me) only boots to the system tray. I always have to go and restore it. As this functionality is missing in the SE Iso, I wonder if that may be a starting point of issue.

Nick,
Concur on the thread. I created a d7ii.SFX self extractor and FYI for that other thread I looked for configuration button and could not find one to uncheck. However have run the Win 8.1 se on the laptop running vista. Don't laugh, I'm just a poor Tech in the swamp no less. Running the Se, it runs great but their seems to be features like the fore mentioned Sys tray button or configure missing that may be important. In any case I created the SFX from the wonderfully running D7ii from my windows 7 repair PC. (I slave USB and repair a lot). On the Vista NB the SFX runs great too. Showed up as cute D7 icon on the system tray and came right up when I clicked on it. Bam no problems. But running the Se on same notebook, the SFX does the smae thing as before (white boxes flash really quick and that's it), nothing in sys tray, or in processes or Services, Nada! Does not seem to matter where it is run like you say. So their has to be something lacking in the Se build that D7ii needs. An overlooked or thought extraneous dll not their or a section of code removed to lighten the load that shut down a dependent or child process? Could also be as you stated a corrupt build download, but I find it unusual to corrupt twice to two different individuals. On the Se I tried running it in all modes and even your offline mode through the Cmd box. All with same result.

I didn't think to try the offline switch, I was trying shift click...run as admin, run as system, ctrl click, etc. I was trying everything and I didn't think to start over with another iso. I opened up 8pe builder, and saw they have a list of microsoft links where you can download the iso, so i'm going to try one of those instead of one of my own isos
I hope its ok to paste the text file of official links, if not please remove. You must have a microsoft account for these.

Also....where do you suggest putting the d7ii folder? As I mentioned my last attempt I drug/dropped in onto the flash drive instead of injecting it into the iso. But when I ran it that was I couldn't find it at all.
If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense.....Who in the world am I? Ah, that's the great puzzle. I'm afraid I can't explain myself, sir. Because I am not myself, you see?

Well now it is starting to make sense. The SFX is designed for remote support not to be run in WinPE.. I've never tested or even thought about that to be honest.

Re: Build a WinPE that works with d7/d7II

Guys,
Well I downloaded from the site again and very carefully monitored making a new iso file. This time I made it direct from OEM disk and made sure everything was on root of C:. Same results. SE boots great with no errors etc.. but D7 goes blink and that is it. SFX will put Icon on desktop along with folder and go out and retrieve files, but will not fire up.
So now I have tried this both ways, direct copy of master file and the SFX. Neither will fire up under this build of Se. So what is missing? I did not touch a single switch on the Se build so it's not like a switch was erroneously turned off or on.

Just tried offline again with a fresh cut and paste to the program file on Y. cmd execute with offline tag has no affect. Splash screen flashes quick and then nothing. Of note though with the notebook hooked up to internet copper, D7ii puts an Icon on the desktop now and downloads files, that is it.
