I recently became aware of the CryptoLocker virus and CryptoPrevent. I installed CryptoPrevent in one of my computers to get familiar with it and am considering purchasing the automatic update feature. I currently run the free version of Avast and also use the free version of Malwareabytes occasionally. Is CryptoPrevent effective against other malware, or just the CryptoLocker?

it is effective against anything that utilizes the same infection tactics of CryptoLocker, including using the %appdata% directories for launching their malicious payload to trojan based delivery with false file extensions. I don't really know what all that is though, there is no 'list.' I can tell you that over 400 various 'in the wild' samples (lots of variants on the same theme) were studied that CryptoPrevent should be effective against. There is exponentially quite a bit more malware out there though!!
