Windows Local account

Postby FredClaus » Mon Mar 18, 2019 2:17 pm

I have a new client stopping by tonight. She thinks she has a Local account on her laptop and forgot her password. She didn't set up the security questions nor make a reset disc. Does D7x have any way to brake the passwords or am I correct in saying she is SOL?

Yes, d7x Locksmith on the Offline tab. This only works with local accounts. If you pay attention to the Locksmith dialogs all instructions are there. You want to point the d7x Offline tab's Target Partition at her hard drive, but you can't run it from her hard drive or point it at the active Operating System partition. You have two options either boot from a WinPE based boot disk and use d7x Offline tab, or attach the hard drive to your PC running d7x and use the Offline tab pointed at the attached drive letter, e.g. "E:" drive or whatever.
